“I’ve always loved Tsavo East National Park’s expansive landscape with its characteristic red soil and dramatic skies. For holidaymakers at the Kenyan coast, it’s the obvious place to go for a quick safari… So, it’s no surprise it can get busy, but luckily the park is vast and getting away from the crowds isn’t too difficult. Just like in Tsavo West National Park, all the animal action tends to be at the water holes”
“In my experience, some parts of the park offer excellent wildlife viewing, most notably the popular road circuit that follows the Voi River between Voi Gate and Aruba Dam, and the roads running from here to Buchuma Gate via a series of pumped waterholes. In these areas, you’re almost sure to see the reserve’s trademark ‘red’ elephants – their colour attributable to the orange dust characteristic of the park – and might also encounter dry-country antelope such as Grant’s gazelle, fringe-eared oryx and gerenuk.”
