This itinerary is designed to be active and educational, perfect for a school group. Lake Elementaita is a shallow soda lake in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, located ~120 km from Nairobi between Lakes Naivasha and Nakuru. As a UNESCO World Heritage site and Ramsar wetland, it is a crucial breeding ground for flamingos and Great White Pelicans within the 48,000-acre Soysambu Conservancy. The area is famed for its birdlife, hot springs, and diverse wildlife viewing
-Morning : Depart from school and travel to Lake Elementaita. Check in at Kikopey Beach Camp, which is situated directly on the lake shore.
-Afternoon: Lunch at the camp. Afterwards, take a guided nature walk along the lake shore. Lake Elementaita is a UNESCO World Heritage site and an Important Bird Area, home to over 400 bird species including flamingos and pelicans . This is a perfect opportunity for an educational bird-watching session. You can introduce students to using binoculars and field guidebooks to identify different species .
-Evening (6:00 PM): Return to camp for a campfire, dinner, and team-building activities.
Morning (6:30 AM): Early breakfast, then depart for the Sleeping Warrior hike. This is the main activity of the day. The trail starts along the lake shore and offers scenic views of the Rift Valley .
Route Options: For a school group, the Medium Hike (4-5 hours, ~12 km) is recommended. It involves hiking to the Sleeping Warrior hill, ascending to the "nose" peak, proceeding to Ugali Hill, and then descending .
-Afternoon: Packed picnic lunch at a scenic point on the trail. After completing the hike and descending, you can visit the Kikopey Hot Springs, which are near the starting point of the trail .
-Evening: Return to camp. Dinner and an evening of stargazing or educational talks about the Rift Valley ecosystem.
Morning (8:00 AM): After breakfast, visit Viviens Farm, This working farm has a collection of farm animals .The farm offers a great opportunity for children to pet and interact with the animals, and even ride donkeys or ponies . This is the closest match to a "donkey sanctuary" experience in the area.
-Late Morning (11:00 AM): Break down camp and pack up.
-Afternoon (1:00 PM): Depart for your journey back to school.
